Frequently asked questions
- How many cubic yards of mulch do I need?
- Multiply bed area (ft²) by depth (ft), divide by 27. Example: 300 ft² × 3 in (0.25 ft) = 75 ft³ ≈ 2.78 yd³ bulk delivery.
- How many mulch bags equal a cubic yard?
- Standard retail bags are 2 ft³. One cubic yard is 27 ft³, so about 13–14 bags per yard, always round up. Our calculator shows both bag count and bulk yards.
- How deep should mulch be?
- Use 2–3 inches for decorative beds and 3–4 inches where you want stronger weed suppression. Deeper is not always better, too much can suffocate plant roots.
